Mobile Learning with the LinguaTV app for Android and iOS

With LinguaTV mobile apps, you can take your language course with you, anywhere, anytime - even offline! In the following we want to present further benefits of mobile learning.

Mobile Learning is one of the biggest trends in professional development. For this reason LinguaTV has developed Android and iOS mobile apps for language learners and specially adapted its teaching materials for mobile learning.

In particular corporate customers are increasingly relying on mobile learning since they can use mobile apps to support employees who are travelling a lot or who have no access to a computer at work. With our mobile language-learning apps for Android and iOS we provide bite-sized teaching units (so-called microlearning) for people learning on the go or in between tasks.

The LinguaTV app is the first app to bring very high quality, multimedia language-learning videos in five languages to the mobile phone. These didactic videos promote learner motivation through story-telling as well as providing successful communication training in the context of true-to-life situations. Together with the grammar tutorials and interactive exercises, all four competences can be practised at all levels (A1-C1) whilst on the move. The “Offline Function” is also especially useful. This enables the app to be used, even when the learner has no internet access, for example when travelling by train or plane. The learner’s progress is also synchronised with the online-platform and so seamlessly integrates mobile learning with previously established cloud-based learning, thus broadening the learning horizons for all, irrespective of whether the employees work for your firm or for partners or suppliers.

Another hot topic relevant to mobile learning is “Gamification”. LinguaTV has been using Gamification, not only as a key element of mobile learning, but also as a long-standing component of its online resources, in order to improve learner motivation. The predominant questions in this context are: How can teaching materials be produced in an attractive and game-oriented way? How can elements of gamification improve the learner’s motivation? Is the impact of Gamification upon learning controllable and measurable? All those who enjoy game-oriented learning are welcome to try out some of the many gamification features of the LinguaTV apps at the LinguaTV stand.

Sandra Gasber, managing director of LinguaTV, commenting on case studies of using mobile teaching apps, says, “Mobile learning enables us not only to reach new German-learners who up to now have found it difficult to learn a language (for example employees working in hotel and catering, care-workers and manual workers), but also to integrate regular language learning into daily life, since bite-sized materials significantly lower the hurdles to learning."
