Blended Learning: advantages for SMEs

Blended Learning has established itself as an important key concept in the digitisation of corporate vocational training. What advantages does the concept offer for small and medium-sized enterprises? And what do they need to bear in mind when implementing it?

Blended learning is based on an optimal combination of classroom teaching and e-learning. This concept combines various media and methods, such as microlearning, mobile applications or the use of videos. The aim is to enhance the advantages of the respective form of learning and to minimise its disadvantages. If implemented correctly, up to 20% better learning results can be achieved.

What makes blended learning so attractive, especially for small and medium-sized companies, is the high degree of flexibility. This means that an individually optimised learning solution can be put together and specifically adapted to the needs of the company and the learners. For example, classroom training can also be carried out in a virtual classroom, so that employees from other company locations or from the home office can also take part in the training without any problems. In combination with the e-learning components, which in the best case are also available on mobile devices, further training can thus be offered independent of time and location.

Especially for companies with different locations, a comprehensive blended learning concept can facilitate the change from non-uniform isolated solutions to a global solution. Administrative processes and costs as well as quality and education controlling can thus be optimised throughout the company. The cloud-based learning solutions can be provided quickly, comprehensively and without any loss of security and quality, independent of the company's internal infrastructure. Regardless of the learning management systems and standards used (SCORM), standard interfaces (APIs) ensure integration into the company.

Conclusion:

Blended Learning enables small and medium-sized companies in particular to open up training courses to modern technologies without having to abandon face-to-face teaching altogether. Nor is the change so radical that a lack of acceptance among employees is to be feared. A well thought-out blended learning concept is therefore a "best of both worlds" which helps to implement the digitisation and transformation of vocational training in small and medium-sized enterprises successfully and sustainably.
