More crisis-proof with digital solutions
Accelerated by the corona pandemic, 2020 could go down in the history books as the year of the great digital transformation. Those who follow this trend will usually come through the crisis more easily. This applies equally to general business processes and to continuing education in companies and universities.

Lockdown, home office, video conferencing - the corona pandemic acts as a digital catalyst. The figures for this are provided by Telekom's current digitization index (as of December 2020). According to the index, 74% of the companies surveyed have offered their employees home office workstations this year. In response to the crisis, 55% of the companies have introduced working from home or have expanded it to more employees. This trend is also reflected in investment decisions. Here, the Telekom study showed the greatest growth in video conferencing and collaboration solutions, followed by remote access/VPN solutions and mobile devices for employees. The conclusion of the study is clear: Those who rely on digital solutions can react faster and more flexibly to changes and thus come through the crisis much better.

Some have recognized this trend in good time and have already changed over before the pandemic. A good example is the company Gegenbauer, one of the largest facility management providers in Germany. As early as 2018, Gegenbauer, together with LinguaTV, began to introduce a digital solution for the language training of its employees, relying on a combination of language learning app, mobile coaching and lessons in the virtual classroom. Since then, Gegenbauer employees have been able to take advantage of language training that is flexible in terms of time and location, and save the trip to classroom instruction. When the first corona lockdown was imposed at the beginning of 2020, the training could be continued without any restrictions.

Those who only offered face-to-face classes at that time had a severe problem. This affected not only companies, but above all schools and universities. But here, too, it became clear that a digital solution could be implemented quickly and efficiently even for a larger number of learners. Thus the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum together with LinguaTV managed to offer German courses in the virtual classroom for over 100 prospective students with a migration background within a very short time. Thanks to an innovative blended learning concept, this virtual classroom is closely linked to the self-study courses via app and already ensured extremely successful learning results in the first semester. The range of virtual German courses is now being further expanded at the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum.
