Corporate Learning Trends 2022
During the pandemic, corporate learning has experienced an enormous boost in digitization. What is the current state? And where do we go from here? We have summarized the latest findings for you and present the most important trends for corporate learning in 2022.

Corona has had a lasting impact on our everyday lives, both in our private and professional lives, and of course also on corporate learning. Pandemic-related contact restrictions and the widespread use of home offices were once again key drivers for the rapid expansion of digital training solutions last year. But what are the concrete figures on this?
Surveys by the ifo Institute and Deutsche Telekom showed that just under a year after the start of the pandemic, around 80% of companies were already offering mobile workplaces to at least some of their employees. The fact that there are still major differences between the respective industries should come as little surprise to anyone. By contrast, the results of a recent study by the Ifo Institute and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) are particularly noteworthy. The evaluation of more than 35 million job advertisements revealed that home office offers more than tripled in 2021 compared to 2019. According to the study, the majority of companies also want to offer a home office option in the long term. This is also in line with the wishes of many employees. After all, over 70% of Germans are even in favor of a legal right to home office, according to Statista.
The extent to which the trend toward mobile workplaces is actually having an impact on continuing education is demonstrated by the current benchmarking study "Educational Technologies in Transition." According to the study, 91.2% of the companies surveyed further expanded their investments in digital learning during the pandemic, while at the same time cutting the budget for classroom training in 40% of cases. The majority (55.1%) of companies surveyed also plan to continue expanding digital training after Corona. Among the various educational technologies far ahead is the use of video conferencing software (82.8%), especially since in many cases face-to-face training has been moved to the virtual classroom. However, study participants see the greatest growth potential in video-based formats (84.7%), such as instructional videos, stand-alone video content, or explainer videos. However, recordings of webinars or virtual classroom sessions are now also expected to be used more frequently. 71.3% assume that microlearning and WBTs will also be expanded in the future.

The benchmarking study thus largely confirms the trends already presented in the mmb Trendmonitor 2020/2021. When asked about the future significance of the respective form of learning in the company, two clear winners emerged: blended learning (100%) and the use of virtual classrooms/webinars (97%). The companies surveyed also saw an important role for the use of videos (90%), followed by micro-learning, online coaching and mobile learning. Rather less importance, on the other hand, was attached to chatbots, virtual 3D worlds or messaging services. A look at the commercial success of the respective form of learning reveals a similar picture, although mobile applications are in first place here. An interesting detail in the trend monitor: online coaching appears in the ranking for the first time this year and has made it directly into the top 5.
Conclusion:
The trend in corporate learning for 2022 is once again: significantly more digital and less classroom-based. The most important tools are blended learning and the use of virtual classrooms/webinars, followed by videos, micro-learning and mobile learning. As the trend toward more home offices and mobile workplaces continues, online coaching is also likely to play a more important role in the future.
