Language training with online coaching at Allianz and Gegenbauer

From intensive one-on-one training via video conference or telephone to scalable learning support via live chat: coaching elements offer a wide range of possible applications for a particularly effective and individually optimized language training.

"Seriously?!?" Steven has once again managed to rattle Verena. After a brief pause, the two analyze the course of the conversation together. Verena is a project manager and is to be prepared for an important stay abroad with this language training via video conference. Her trainer Steven uses role-playing and other coaching methods to prepare Verena particularly well for her everyday professional life. With acting talent and didactic finesse, he manages to make the situation feel very realistic for Verena, even emotionally. "Steven tries to make me feel insecure with feigned provocations," Verena describes the exercise. Steven confirms the pedagogical approach: "I prepare Verena to communicate confidently and correctly in English, even in difficult situations." Thanks to these particularly intensive lessons, Verena has quickly made great progress. She feels very well prepared for her project abroad.

The potential of using coaching methods for language training in corporate learning is shown by the example of Allianz SE. For some time now, the insurance group has been offering its employees the opportunity to book online training units with LinguaTV. Depending on their personal needs, learners then receive intensive one-on-one training or small-group instruction focused on active speaking in the virtual classroom. Depending on the form of instruction, the trainer has a variety of options for addressing the individual needs of the participants and strengthening their professional communication in a targeted manner. Teaching in the virtual classroom is part of LinguaTV's blended learning concept. Between training sessions, Allianz employees use the learning videos and interactive exercises in the LinguaTV app or via browser, thus expanding their vocabulary and preparing for the next class. The evaluation of the learning data obtained in the process provides the trainer with a valuable tool for identifying the current strengths and weaknesses of his students and further optimizing individual lessons.

A scalable complement to self-study courses or blended learning.

In addition to these very intensive training formats, however, coaching elements can also be used as a scalable upgrade for self-determined learning. A good example of this is the company Gegenbauer. The facility management provider employs over 18,500 employees from over 100 nations throughout Germany. To facilitate communication with customers and colleagues, the company already introduced mobile language training for employees in the facility cleaning sector in 2018 together with LinguaTV. The multimedia German courses in the LinguaTV app were expanded to include a customized vocabulary trainer with company-specific learning content. In addition, LinguaTV and Gegenbauer together developed a scalable coaching program in the form of personal learning support. Participants in the language training receive a direct contact person who accompanies them throughout the entire learning process, answers questions via live chat or telephone and, if necessary, helps to design an individually optimized learning strategy. The service has been very well received by learners. Beginners and less independent learners in particular benefit from the learning support and show above-average and rapid learning success.
