LinguaTV as HR innovator at the DGFP Congress in Hamburg
This year solutions for personnel work in globalisation stood at the top of the agenda for the DGFP Congress, which took place from the 13th to the 14th May 2014 in Hamburg.
This year's congress also marked the start of an HR innovations initiative from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Personalführung (DGFP) (“German Association for HR Management”) and the Agentur Innovation Evangelists. The online foreign language training from LinguaTV was amongst the first of the HR innovations presented in this context. This is because LinguaTV offers companies new opportunities in global training and education for employees through its innovative foreign language training.

Katharina Heuer, chairwoman of the executive board for Germany's leading specialist organisation for personnel management and leadership, commented on LinguaTV's nomination in the context of the initiative: “We want to promote future-oriented personnel work in our companies. The advancement of linguistic and intercultural competence amongst employees is a central challenge in this time of increasing globalisation and international recruitment.”

Language problems in medium-sized businesses – Demand amongst employees to catch up on “Business English”
The overwhelming majority of German employees do not speak business fluent English, despite the fact their companies often operate globally as world champions in export. According to a study by the Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung (GfK) (“Association for Consumer Research”), only 2.1 percent of employees surveyed could speak business-fluent English. 65.5 percent of employees admit to having only a moderate language ability. However, many companies are increasingly reacting to this development and are making efforts to offer language courses. Such measures are welcome by employees with open arms, who understand how important foreign language proficiency is for success in business and personal careers.

Since there is often little time in the world of work for employees to participate in language learning in the classroom and large absences at work are best avoided, LinguaTV is offering a flexible alternative. Companies can successfully train their employees alongside work through video-based online language courses and interactive exercises in “Business English” and other important languages.
The structure of the language courses and the possibility for mobile usage allows the range of lessons to easily be integrated into the workplace. Thus, LinguaTV is not only available on the computer at work, but also on all mobile devices, and can be used at any time and place.

LinguaTV extends its range of lessons for “German as a foreign language” by eight courses
The flow of skilled workers and students from abroad to Germany is not coming to a halt. Hundreds of thousands are looking to find their luck in the Federal Republic, driven by high unemployment in their home countries. For companies plagued by shortages in specialised staff it is a godsend.

In fact, the current migration situation in the EU is leading to a greater demand for German as a foreign language. Against this background, LinguaTV has now extended its language-learning platform to include audiovisual online German courses. A total of eight new courses for all abilities from beginner (A1) to advanced (B2) are now available. This is the start of a total of nine courses we are creating in this area, which will cover a volume of 171 lessons with over 200 videos and over 8,000 interactive exercises.

All new in May – LinguaTV offers many new learning functions

Alongside the tried and tested – a scenic video, a practice section with interactive exercises and games and a download section – the new German courses now offer an additional vocabulary trainer for every lesson. With the new LinguaTV vocabulary trainer the learner can expand his vocabulary faster and more effectively.

Furthermore, there is an independent grammar lesson for each course lesson. The grammar tutorials provide a completely new learning experience through their creative format and colourful visualisations, and take learning grammar to a new level.
Another feature of the new German courses are the intermediary and final tests with subsequent certification.

For each course there are between 3-4 intermediary tests which examine the student's learning progress and repeat and reinforce lesson content.
At the end of the course the user can complete a final test. The newly acquired knowledge from the entire course is tested through the aid of games and exercises. The final test can, however, only be taken when at least 70% of the points have been attained in the intermediary tests. When you successfully pass the final test, you can generate a certificate of participation with a single click, which will be sent via e-mail as a PDF.
Clearer lesson view – learning progress and success at a glance
Once you started your course at LinguaTV, a clear list of the individual lessons appears – this is nothing new. Now, however, you can see the learning progress and success for each individual lesson in addition.

The circle in the upper right corner shows with various colours to what extent this lesson has been completed and how successful you have been. If you hove the mouse over the picture, more detailed percentile information appears. In addition, you can find a short table of contents and overview regarding what vocabulary or grammar is learnt in that lesson.
